About Rachelle

Like a moth drawn to a flame, Rachelle's undeniable affinity for music started at a very early age. Singing from the time she could talk her parents recognized the spark that would eventually turn into a fire and had her enrolled in piano lessons at the tender age of five.

Once she mastered the piano she turned her sites to the varied world of percussion, and at 14 years old began studying drums and percussion under various great teachers within the Ottawa area.

Unhappy with limiting her musical life to after-school and weekends Rachelle enrolled in the Canterbury High School for the Performing Arts as a young teenager, solidifying her needs for a musical dose on a daily basis.

From the age of 16 Rachelle has been a constant player in the Ottawa 'live music scene'. She played drums for various local cover and original acts up until her early 20's, at which point her desire to sing and lead a band led her down yet another path in her musical career.

Rachelle can now boast to singing lead and back-ups with a host of bands and artists spanning the genres from rock to jazz to funk!

 

Her journey has led her to many stages across the region, performing at local fairs, clubs, the annual Blues & Folk Festivals, Barrymore’s, The National Arts Centre as well as many private functions. She has also had the honor of opening for acclaimed artists & acts such as Jeff Healy (RIP) and The Five Man Electrical Band.

Rachelle's draw as a performer is almost indistinguishable, her stage presence, her re-pore with the audience, and her outstanding vocal ability make her one of the regions top performers. With an extensive vocal range, powerful and emotional, Rachelle has been known to bring people to tears. There is never a dull moment once she hits the stage!

Her love of all musical genres frees her to explore and flourish in all styles. From rock to jazz, blues, Latin and soul. Whether it's a high-energy show with the FunKtion, or a tender jazz duo, Rachelle commits to the mood and pours herself into the songs.

Her vocal influences include Bonnie Rait, Aretha Franklin, and Sarah Vaughn,. While musically she admired Tower of Power, Dave Matthews and many more, and too many to list!
